Harry's Cafe (Gardena)

All this can be yours for $7.50. It's the whopping Jr.-size version of Harry's Mixed Plate: fried chicken, char siu pork, tender spare ribs and fried wonton over a bed of white rice and accompanied by a scoop of macaroni salad; flavorful, juicy and not too greasy like your some of your other Hawaiian food chains.

Seems this hole-in-the-wall joint recently opened. Before it was The Loft. Before that it was the beloved Harry's Aloha Chop Suey Cafe. I can only assume it's the same Harry, coming out of retirement.

Aww...Harry's. That place is an institution in Gardena. Before all of the chain "Hawaiian" restaurants. I'm so glad you wrote them up!

So Harry's is back out of retirement?

That's my assumption, but if anyone has info let me know. I'll also ask next time I'm over there. =D

That looks so good, especially currently when I need to go out to get dinner, but am stalling by looking at everyone else's tasty looking food! :)

I don't think it's the original owners of Harry's. I believe someone else bought it from the Loft and re-opened it as Harry's. I tried it a few months back, and it just wasn't the same...

BTW, Harry's son Larry (and Larry's wife Debbie) were running the restaurant for many years after Harry retired.

There is one of Harry's original cooks working there. It is as good as before (just no steamtable in front). I have been going there for almost 40 years and Dad first visited in the mid 60's for the mid-night saimin.

stGreetings... I don't believe Harry himself, came out of retirement. The original Harry sold the restaurant years ago. This new owner, kept the Harry's fried chicken and some of the other menu items because that's what made Harry's so famous!
