Readers Digest online had this picture of a
sumo wrestler preparing breakfast for the rest of the stable. The dish is called
Chanko Nabe. From left to right, there's sliced onions, udon noodles,
enoki and
shimeji mushrooms, chives and napa cabbage. I'm assuming the darker meat is sliced pork and the lighter meat is chicken. Sumo wrestlers are known for fattening up with this meal, not because it's especially fattening but because they eat
several dozen bowls in one sitting.
I made this photo my desktop wallpaper. It perpetually makes my stomach rumble.
Chanko nabe is one of my most favorite nabe's!!! Natsukashii~!
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw the sumo wrestler ladling, my first thought was: OY VEY. He really does get props for getting so close to a piping hot cauldron in his ... uniform. :P
ReplyDeletehave you tried the chanko-nabe SSG off of western? very good...
ReplyDeleteHey Jeni~! ^^ Yeah, nabe season is almost here. Too bad I don't have a kotatsu.
ReplyDeleteHello Marie~Yeah, I'm sure he feels very comfortable in his nakedness. =P
Hi Ila~ Yup, I've tried Shinsengumi's chanko nabe and yes, it's yummy. Too bad it takes so long get a room there.
That's what I call a real sumo meal! but if you don't have enough money, just buy some hamburgers!
